Los Viejitos (little old men) Embroidered Mexican Quilted Pillow Cover 18 x 18

$100.00

Description

The centerpiece of this pillow cover is a vintage embroidery from the state of Michoacan. I purchased this several years ago in one of my favorite boutiques in Puerto Vallarta. It depicts dancers in a traditional folk dance called “Los Viejitos.” This means the old men, but when you add the “itos” to it, it becomes a term of endearment. When I was in a Mexican ballet folklorico group many years ago, I learned this dance myself.

The embroidery on this piece is incredible. The dancers are wearing typical clothing from Michoacan, and they are holding canes in their hands. In the dance, the canes are tapped rhythmically along with the tapping of the feet.

I surrounded the embroidered piece with fabric from Guatemala. The pompoms are handmade in Chiapas, Mexico, and carefully stitched in place. The opening in the back is envelope style. Each piece is signed on the back. The pillow insert is not included, but you can purchase an 18” square pillow form from many locations.
